Our Work

A look at ARCA's craft across knit, crochet, sewing, and jewelry — including pieces made for past customers. Wall hangings are joining the lineup soon. Current in-hand stock is being added; in the meantime, message ARCA to ask about a piece or commission one like it.

About

The concepts are the tools.

Arca Creative Concepts is a Barbados-based, family-run studio working across knit, crochet, sewing, and jewelry. The name carries two stories: ARCA spells out the initials of the family behind it, and Creative Concepts nods to the notions pictured in our own mark — the scissors, thread, pins, and yarn behind every piece we make. Two ideas, one studio, built with the tools of the trade.

Our approach is simple: if you see it, we can make it. Some items have been created out of a love for the art, but custom orders are always welcome.

Meet ARCA

ARCA is a family business, and the name is built from the family behind it — Allison, Renee, Carlene, and Allison, the first letter of each name spelling out the studio's own. I'm the first Allison, and I've been knitting and crocheting for many years. When my three daughters came along, I taught the first to crochet and embroider, and the other two to knit. Raising five children also made me proficient at garment making — sewing was simply the more economical way to keep everyone dressed.

After an accident left me with a broken arm, I picked crochet back up again, starting with baby booties made for a local store. In 2016, I turned that hobby into a registered business. Since then, ARCA has partnered with Handmade by Kae to crochet sacks for her natural soaps, made christening gowns for several satisfied clients, and crafted character hats and costumes for children's special occasions. More recently, I've joined Elaine's Caribbean Crochet to make sea creatures for their Crochet for a Cause project (2024–2026); our most recent collaboration was Crochet for a Cause 2026: The Healthy Edition, held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre on International Crochet Day, Saturday September 12, 2026.

Carlene, the family's essential knitter, went on to learn how to knit in the round using four and five double-pointed needles as well as circular needles. She has created custom hats for many returning customers, and during COVID-19 she knit a series of dolls — mini replicas of doctors, nurses, police officers, and soldiers — commissioned by those same frontline workers as a memorial during a difficult time. Carlene is multi-talented, and has also made knitted ornaments, beaded jewelry, and charms.

Allison, the second, enjoyed knitting in her formative years and has since branched out into garment construction, running her own registered business. She still contributes to ARCA from time to time — including the two-sided rag doll in our Custom Made collection.

Renee, a grandchild and niece in the family, has learned to create her own jewelry, and crochets small pieces for herself when she has the time.

After returning to crochet following an injury, Allison registered ARCA as a business — starting with baby booties for a local store.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Carlene knit a series of figures — including doctors, nurses, police officers, and soldiers — commissioned by those same frontline workers as a memorial during a difficult time.

2024–2026

Crochet for a Cause

Allison joins Elaine's Caribbean Crochet to craft sea creatures for the Crochet for a Cause project, most recently at the 2026 Healthy Edition on International Crochet Day.

2025

Teaching begins

ARCA joins the Wesleyan Holiness Community Service Program, with Allison teaching crochet to beginners.

2026

A new term, and a new partner

A new crochet term opens at Whitepark Wesleyan Holiness Church, alongside ARCA's ongoing work with the Calvary Institute teaching garment construction and crochet.
